RESTORATION AND MAINTENACE SINCE 2013 BY OMAG GARAGE. PREVIOUS OWNER RESTORED AT OMAG GARAGE HERE IN PALM SPRINGS. A "1973 1/2" (or 1973.5) Porsche 911 Targa refers to a specific, transitional version of the 911T produced during the latter half of the 1973 model year. It is highly regarded by enthusiasts because it combines the iconic, classic "long hood" body style with a more reliable and smoother running fuel injection system, acting as a bridge between the early "F-series" and the later impact- bumper "G-series". Here is what defines a 1973 1/2 Porsche 911T: 1. BOSCH CIS Fuel Injection The defining feature of the 1973.5 is the switch from Mechanical Fuel Injection (MFI) or carburetors to Bosch K-Jetronic Continuous Injection System (CIS). Daniol Schmitt&8 Co. Classic Car Gallery * • Why it Matters: This system was introduced to meet stricter US emissions regulations and to improve driveability. It is known for being smoother, more reliable, and easier to maintain than the previous MFI systems, which were prone to a "fat spot" in acceleration. • Performance: The 2.4-liter engine equipped with CIS produced roughly 140 horsepower, offering a refined, durable, and powerful driving experience. Porsche Club of America (PCA) +4 2. The "Long Hood" Body Despite the mechanical changes, the 1973.5 retains the desirable "Iong hood" styling, where the front bonnet extends all the way to the bumper. The following year (1974), Porsche introduced impact-absorbing bumpers (accordion bumpers) which required a shorter hood and altered the classic styling. - stuttcars +2 3. Key 1973.5 Features • Production Date: The 1973.5 models were generally produced from January 1, 1973, through the end of the 1973 model year (July 1973). • Targa Specifics: These models continued the classic Targa roof design, featuring the brushed stainless steel (or optional black) roll bar. . Interior/Exterior: Many 1973.5 models featured "S" trim packages, including Fuchs wheels, and interior upgrades, often leading to them being called the "God Spec" of late long hoods • 2.4-Liter Engine: The 2.4-liter flat-six was used across all '73 models. Porsche Club of America (PCA) +4 Why They Are Collectible The 1973.5 911T is considered a "best of both worlds" car. It provides the pure, classic, and high-value aesthetic of the early 911s (pre-1974) combined with the much more usable and modern CIS injection system.
