1978 GMC SIERRA CLASSIC K1500 SHORT WHEEL BASE • 4x4 • 4- SPEED. RESTORATION APPROACH: The goal was not to over-restore the truck, but to return a rare short-wheelbase Sierra Classic to the level it deserved while preserving its identity. Virtually every area of the truck was evaluated, serviced, refinished, restored or replaced as needed so it could be driven, shown and enjoyed. THOUGHTFUL UPGRADES: 4 inch suspension lift with 35 inch BFG tires. Premium carpeting with extensive sound deadening, Retro Sound Bluetooth audio system and modern clear-coat paint protection with color matched Raptor bedliner. ENGINE & DRIVETRAIN: 350ci V8: carburetor rebuilt; complete tune-up performed; compression checked; seals serviced; cooling system serviced and pressure- tested; engine visually refinished. 4-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case serviced and resealed. Worn suspension components addressed; 4-inch suspension lift installed; front disc/rear drum brake system refreshed. Dual fuel tanks and sending units replaced; exhaust system replaced. Power steering retained; manually locking front hubs retained and serviced as part of the refurbishment. INTERIOR: Cab and doors treated with sound- deadening material for a more solid, refined driving Bench-seat frame refurbished; new foam installed; seat hand upholstered in red cloth and vinyl using period-appropriate materials and patterns. Premium OC Auto Carpets carpeting installed. Steering column completely rebuilt and fitted with a replacement steering wheel. Dashboard and instrument bezel, headliner, door panels, lighting, handles, seals and related interior trim restored or replaced. RetroSound stereo with Bluetooth connectivity installed as a discreet usability upgrade. THE TRUCKS STORY: Acquired in January 2024 as part of a collection of 14 trucks and one motorcycle from a collector in Price, Utah. The family wanted the collection placed with someone who would finish the vehicles to the level their father had envisioned. This Sierra Classic was especially meaningful to his daughter and granddaughter, who spent many weekends taking it to local car shows with him. Before coming into our care, the truck had been titled only to its original owner. Its original title accompanies the truck. It arrived as a solid, unmodified survivor: mechanically cared for, cosmetically aged, and notably free from the sort of major rust repair or heavy alteration often seen on vintage 4x4 trucks. Has undergone a photo documented 18 month body off restoration to get to what you see today.
